Equine News December 2020
Read all about it! An exciting year in terms of research into equine grass sickness, not so much in terms of getting out and about!
Every cloud has a silver lining, and although we were disappointed not to get out to shows and events to tell our story, it did give us an unprecedented opportunity to take a step back and take stock. Meanwhile many of our hardy supporters remained undaunted by the pandemic, and managed to raise significant funds for our research effort.
We have lots of exciting research news coming forward in 2021, but we will start with the announcement that we have appointed a full time Research Fellow, who will start in Feb 2021. The aim of the fellowship project is to breathe fresh life into our search for the cause of grass sickness, by taking an interdisciplinary scientific approach. It is almost certain that the disease is multi factorial, so by engaging with experts in a wide range of disciplines, we hope to examine this elusive disease from different angles.
A crucial part of the project is the establishment of a biobank of samples, both environmental and horse related, and establish a national case database. We will bring you more information about how to take part in this project early next year.
We hope you enjoy the read. Next year we are introducing bi-monthly e-newsletters to keep you up to date with our progress, so please get in touch if you would like to subscribe. Our twice a year printed version will still be available.
