Burlington Bertie at Newmarket
Burlington Bertie, the grass sickness recovery case from Suffolk who featured in one of our Equine News, attended the National Stud Fair, Newmarket in July 2003.
Bertie paraded once each day in the main arena and had lots of visitors at his box, next to the EGSF stand, over the 3 days. Bertie’s owner Denise Hewett reports that he is very well since his illness and came 2nd from an entry of 27 in a dressage competition. Baileys Horse Feeds generously sponsored a beautiful rug for Bertie to wear at the event.
The Fair, which coincided with racing at Newmarket and the Tattersalls Sales, had an exciting programme covering all aspects of equestrianism. Main ring attractions included Stallion Parades, the Household Cavalry’s Musical Ride, a charity polo match, rare breeds, a parade of horse drawn carriages and Katie Cropper’s Sheepdog Display.
